Casualty Of War The Stein God Of War Quest Walkthrough

In God of War Ragnarok, exploring the vast regions of Vanaheim reveals numerous hidden side quests known as Favors. Among these optional endeavors is Casualty of War: The Stein, a tragic story centered around a restless spirit named Magnus seeking to restore his lost memories. Completing this favor rewards Kratos and Atreus with valuable experience points and a powerful amulet enchantment.

How to Start Casualty of War: The Stein

Before you can initiate this side quest, you must first reach The Crater region within Vanaheim and navigate to The Jungle. You are required to complete another favor called Return of the River, which restores water flow to the dried-up canyons. Once the river is restored, head toward the dam area, ascend using the lift, and squeeze through the nearby wall opening. You will find a glowing purple item on the ground near the water's edge. Interacting with this artifact allows you to speak with Magnus, who asks Kratos to locate the missing half of his beloved mead stein.

Navigating to the Second Stein Location

To locate the remaining piece of the artifact, travel back toward The Plains section of the map using a Mystic Gateway. Ensure that you visit a Celestial Altar to change the time of day to night, as certain pathways in the region are blocked during daylight hours. Get into a boat near the Western Plains dock and follow the winding river heading toward the westernmost shore. Landing your vessel at this location brings you directly to a secluded lair containing the second half of the stein.

Defeating the Dreki and Claiming the Artifact

Upon entering the secluded area on the western shore, you will immediately face a formidable blue Dreki creature. You must defeat this boss enemy in battle before you can safely pick up the quest item. After eliminating the monster, search near the surrounding rocks on the northern side of the arena for a pink glowing object. Picking up the second piece of the mead stein summons Magnus once more, allowing him to regain his full memory and pass on peacefully.

Quest Completion Rewards

Finishing Casualty of War: The Stein provides significant rewards for character progression. Kratos receives 500 XP, while Atreus earns 125 XP for assisting in the spirit's journey. Additionally, players receive the Kinetic Resilience Amulet Enchantment, which offers unique combat bonuses to aid in future battles throughout the Nine Realms.
